Val Gay is a recording/performing artist and thought leader. While a classically trained soprano, Val is an active performer (multi-instrumentalist and singer) across several genres, having performed in several small and large concert halls, including solo performances from churches across the country to Carnegie Hall. In 2021, Val began releasing singles from her first solo recording project “Re-Purposed + Re-Positioned” which is comprised of original music she’s written across a few musical genres. In 2019, Val received an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from St. Joseph’s University and has earned a Professional Studies Certificate and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance, a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the University of the Arts and completed degree course work at Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.

Attending the Beautifully Peaceful Protest in Philly on 6/6/20, I saw a sign that reminded me of this song - “We Who Believe In Freedom Can Not Rest” - words spoken by Ella Baker - a civil rights Giant for over 5 decades (who may have never heard of). Miss. Baker worked alongside some of the most noted civil rights leaders of the 20th century, including W. E. B. Du Bois, Thurgood Marshall, A. Philip Randolph, and Martin Luther King Jr. She also mentored many emerging activists, such as Diane Nash, Stokely Carmichael, Rosa Parks, and Bob Moses, whom she first mentored as leaders in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Her quotes in the song remain relevant today: (Words: Ella Baker. Original Song: Bernice Reagon. EPISODE 140 Kyle Hobson, @kylethejukebox @jukeboxentertainment_also known as Kyle the Jukebox, is a multifaceted professional, creative, and an active alumni of Morehouse College. A proud product of New York, Kyle has built himself as a multifaceted artist, being a musician, writer, journalist and poet while remaining to work in his community. Morehouse developed his poetic ability and opportunities. He was able to participate in various performance opportunities while serving with Next Great American Poet on campus, performing for entities such as Killer Mike, Vince Carter, the Atlanta Hawks and performing on shared staged with poets like Common. During his time in Atlanta, he has involved himself in many working parts of the music industry, in the areas of talent management, managing singer Kaylan Arnold, live production, music consulting, experiential marketing, and creative strategy. However, his true passion is art. As a poet, photographer, and artist manager, Kyle the Jukebox looks to creative spaces for likeminded creatives to freely explore and pursue their passions through the means of collaboration, community, and creativity, while creating and maintaining their sense of individuality. EPISODE 139 Don Miller’s, CPA @iamrpd, @rockpaperdenim enthusiasm to be an entrepreneur began when he saw and understood his Dad managing Don’s Grandfather's tire shop, which he eventually took over. Don tried many things, but while attending Xavier University in Louisiana, Don and a friend pushed a clothing brand called SHAPES and it was fortunate enough to be featured on Lou Rawl's Evening of Stars on BET. After obtaining a B.S. in Accounting in 2003, Cum Laude, Don worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte in the audit and tax fields. However in 2007, his passion to be creative prompted him to relaunch another brand, this time it would be called Rock Paper Denim 1970. Rock Paper Denim is a 70s inspired athletic casual brand. The mission of the company is to inspire people with a message of hope that's expressed thru style and story. The brand has been in stores, on runways, magazines and featured in films. The brand motto is the world will know. Don is excited to see how it continues to evolve. Currently, Don still practices working as a CPA while growing Rock Paper Denim. EPISODE 137 Richard A. Oliver Jr., @ricky1911_ a dynamic 25-year-old hailing from West Philadelphia, where he was born and raised. Richard's educational journey has been marked by determination and a commitment to public service. In 2020, he proudly graduated from East Stroudsburg University of PA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training and Cum Laude Honors, showcasing his passion for physical health and wellness. Richard's thirst for knowledge and desire to make a positive impact on his community led him to pursue further education. In 2022, he successfully obtained his Master's Degree in Public Administration from West Chester University of PA with a 4.0 GPA, expanding his expertise in leadership and public policy. Throughout his academic journey, Richard embraced extracurricular involvement as a means to foster personal growth and cultivate lasting relationships. As a distinguished member of the Mu Beta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. at East Stroudsburg University, he demonstrated leadership and dedication to his fellow fraternity brothers. Richard's commitment to community service was further exemplified by his role as the 4th District Youth Commissioner for the Philadelphia Mayor's Office of Youth Engagement. In this position, he championed the needs and aspirations of young people, working tirelessly to ensure their voices were heard and their concerns addressed. Currently, Richard holds the esteemed position of Youth Engagement Coordinator at the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of PA. In this critical role, he spearheads the youth engagement arm of the office, where he focuses on various initiatives such as Civics Education, Federal Law Enforcement Career Exposure, and Community Outreach. By engaging with youth and providing them with the necessary resources, Richard actively contributes to preventing violence and fostering a safe environment for future generations. Richard's dedication to public service, his academic achievements, and his involvement in various organizations have shaped him into a well-rounded individual poised to create a lasting impact in his community. EPISODE 135 Dr. Oscar Holmes IV @OHIV @oscarholmesiv is the founder of WHConsulting Firm, LLC and creator and host of Diversity Matters podcast which premiered in 2020. Additionally, he is the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, an Associate Professor of Management and the Rutgers University Student Executive (RUSE) Director at Rutgers School of Business-Camden where he has taught executive education, graduate, and undergraduate courses in Leadership and Managing Human Capital, Organizational Behavior, Conflict Management and Negotiation, and Crisis Management. He is a 2023-2024 American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow completing his fellowship at the University of Delaware. His research examines how leaders can maximize productivity and well-being through fostering more inclusive environments and has been published in several top-tier management journals and books. He earned a Ph.D. and M.A. in Management from The University of Alabama, M.L.A. from The University of Richmond and a B.S. with honors from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is also a 2006 alum of Stanford University's Graduate School of Business Summer Institute in General Management. While on sabbatical in fall 2016, he was a Visiting Research Professor of Management at the LeBow College of Business at Drexel University and a Research Fellow at the University of Pretoria (South Africa). He is a resident expert for Psychology Today (PT) and hosts his own PT column entitled, “Beyond the Cubicle: Managing Human Capital.” He has won numerous awards for his leadership, scholarship, and teaching such as being named one of Philadelphia Business Journal's 40 Under 40 and Diversity Leaders in Business honorees, one of Diversity MBA Top 100 Under 50 Emerging and Executive Leaders, Philadelphia Tribune Top 10 Under 40 Most Influential African Americans to Watch, and won a Rutgers University Leaders in Faculty Diversity Award in 2020, one of Poets & Quants 40 Under 40 Best Business School Professors in the world, and won the Mid-Atlantic Association of College of Business Administration Innovation in Teaching Award and the New Jersey Policy Research Organization Foundation Bright Idea Research Award in 2018 and 2020. Also in 2018, he created and hosts, Beyond The Mill, a live Diversity Dialogues Talk Show at Rutgers-Camden. In addition to his scholarship being covered in various news outlets, he is a highly sought-after speaker, organizational consultant, and has made a number of media appearances that include Huffington Post Live, TEDx, television, and radio interviews. EPISODE 134 James E. Dupree @dupreestudios @DupreeGallery has been a practicing fine artist in the city of Philadelphia for over five decades. With exhibitions and residencies of national and international scope, Dupree has created a legacy within the world of Fine Arts and Culture. His mediums include but are not limited to painting, mixed media, and sculpture. With 35 different series of work reflecting the life of a contemporary African American Artist, Dupree’s art treads the line between politics, culture, and fine art. Dupree’s work is represented within the collections of public institutions, corporate, and private collectors, including; The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Petrucci Family Foundation, The Schomburg Center, and The African American Museums of both LA and Pennsylvania. Dupree holds a BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design, and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania, where he received ‘Living Legend’ status. He attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine, and was a resident at the Studio Museum in Harlem. Dupree continued his involvement with arts education and went on to teach at various Universities, Art Centers, and Fine Art Schools, such as; PAFA, Crewe and Alsager College of England, Fleisher Art Memorial, PAFA, and University of Pennsylvania. Currently, James Dupree owns and operates two Contemporary Fine Art Galleries where he represents a diverse group of National and International Fine Artists. Dupree Gallery Philadelphia, which has been in operation since 1982 is located at 703 South 6th St. in Philadelphia, PA.
